Overview

Changzhou University (CZU) is located in Changzhou, which boasts a history of over 3200 years and a highly developed economy in the south of Jiangsu Province. Set up as a public university in 1978, it has changed its names several times and in 2010 it was promoted by the Ministry of Education to the current title. In 2011, CZU signed an agreement with Jiangsu Provincial Government and three biggest Chinese petrol corporations (Sinopec, Petrol China and China Oil Offshore), who would jointly fund the university. The past 38 years have witnessed a tremendous progress of CZU, which has become a leading multidisciplinary institution with a particular focus on engineering, science and management programs and established strong links with the industry and governmental organizations.


CZU enjoys a good environment and infrastructure, and covers an area of 100 hectares in two campuses. The university possesses over 1.4 million copies of books, and advanced teaching and research equipment. With its main campus located in Changzhou Science and Education Town, CZU has established close relations with other institutes and universities, which greatly upgrade its quality of education and research. With the strong support from the three petrol corporations, the city and the province, the university has made great contribution to the petrochemical industry and local economy. Bearing the motto of responsibility and striving for excellence, CZU has built up a rising reputation in the province and the country. 


 

Programs

CZU offers a quality education and a great learning experience. The university boasts a student body of 20,000, including over 1800 post graduates. The 15 faculties in CZU offer a wide range of bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programs. Its 67 bachelor’s degree programs cover ten areas, including agriculture, economics, education, engineering, fine arts, law, literature, management, medicine, and science. Many of its academic disciplines and laboratories have been accredited by province and national authorities of education. In the 13th “Challenge Cup” National Science Project Competition for University Students, which is a top contest for Chinese university students, CZU got 1 top prize, 1 second prize and 1 third prize. In the 2006 Undergraduate Teaching Quality Evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education, the university was graded excellent.

 

Faculty

CZU has a strong faculty engaging in teaching and scientific research. Among the 1500 full-time faculty and staff, there is 1000 academic faculty, with 182 bearing the title of professor, and about 50% of the faculty has PhD degrees. Many of the faculty enjoys honorary titles or prizes awarded by the nation or the province, or the fund of national or provincial programs such as Changjiang Scholar Program, New Century Talents Project, Thousand Talents Project, etc. In the 2016 Chinese University Ranking, CZU was ranked 94 in teacher’s average academic and research level. The university has been awarded four times in a row by the province for the excellence of its faculty.


Research

Research, education and links with the industry are closely interacted in CZU, which contribute to the continuous improvement of the university and its education quality. During the period of 2013 to 2015, CZU has undertaken 126 National Science Foundation Projects (including 4 key projects), 22 National Social Science Foundation Projects. 1722 papers have been published in journals included in EI, SCI and ISTP and 1100 patent applications have been granted.


Up till now, CZU has won several top national science awards in China, including three second prizes for National Science and Technology Progress, and one second prize for National Technological Invention, and 72 provincial science awards. The university has jointly set up 20 Provincial Centers for Engineering and Technology with enterprises, 30 joint research centers with enterprises, 295 Bases for of University-Industry Cooperation. CZU is ranked 43 among Chinese universities by Nature Index in the latest.


Internationalization

CZU emphasizes the internationalization of education, with a focus on joint degree programs, academic exchange and collaborative research. The university has set up close relationships with over 40 renowned overseas universities and enterprises from Chile, Finland, Germany, Japan, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, the UK, the US, etc. CZU offers joint degree programs with St. FX University (Canada), Maynooth University (Ireland) and New Jersey City University (US), and program students will be awarded degrees of both universities if they study abroad for one or two years. CZU also receives international students from over 20 nations, who study Chinese language and culture, or degree programs taught in Chinese. CZU launched its first English taught BA program in International Business in September 2015 and more English taught engineering programs will be offered to international students in the near future.
