Notice on Application of Visa and Residence Permit for International Students in Changzhou University

1. Visa Application

International students shall apply for X1 (＞6 months) /X2 (＜6 months) studyvisa from the Chinese embassy or consulate in the country by valid passport, admission letter, JW201/JW202 form.

2. Residence Permit Application for Freshmen

1. Freshmen shall enter China with X1/X2 visa. International students are required to arrive in Changzhou city as soon as possible and register in local police station within 24 hours on arrival in Changzhou city (A fine will be given if fail). Since X1 visa expires in 30 days from the day entering China, students shall finish the residence permit application within 30 days.

2. After registration in Changzhou University, students are required to geta medical checkup in Jiangsu International Travel Healthcare Center in Changzhou downtown (Time for Physical Check-up: Workday, 8:00am-11:00am; Address: No.1268, Longjin Road, Xinbei District, next to Changzhou Municipal Government, Tel: 0519-85152646). The examination costs about 430 RMB, and two 2-inch photos with white or blue background and passport are required. The examination report could be acquired after 3 days.

3. After passing the physical examination, studentsshall prepare the following documents in their counselor’s office to apply for residence permit. If students fail the physical examination, they will be required to exit China as soon as possible.

4. Documents for Residence Permit

1. A copy of Temporary Residence Registration Form

2. Visa Application Form for Foreign Students (completed by students and photos are available in the Visa Center by paying 20 yuan in cash)

3. Application Letter for Foreigner Visa Certificate (provided by school)

4. Copies of your passport (photo page, valid visa/ residence permit page, last airport immigration stamp page)

5. Physical Examination Report (New students only)

6. A copy of Changzhou University's Official Code (provided by school)   

7. The original and copies of the third page of JW202 Form

8. A copy and original version of valid Admission Letter

9. A copy and translated version in Chinese of valid Admission Letter

Note: Visa/residence permit fee: 800 CNY per year. Please keep the above documents carefully. It is recommended to prepare at least three copies for each required original documents for the extension of residence permit in the following academic years.

3. Extension of Residence Permit for Upper Grade Students

1. One week before the expiry date, upper grade students shall apply for extension of residence permit and go to the Exit-Entry Administration Division to apply for the extension of residence permit under the leadership of the international students managers.

(2) If international students change passport name, passport number, or their living address during their studying period, they shall do temporary accommodation registration again in local police station with passport and lease contract (only students living off-campus). If upper grade international students enter China by travel visa, they shall complete temporary accommodation registration again in local police station within 24 hours after they arrive in Changzhou (A fine will be given if fail) and finish the residence permit application within 30 days.

4. Illegal Residence

1. It takes about 15 working days (not including weekends and national holidays) for international students to get passport back by submitting the receipt.

2. Foreigners living in China illegally shall be given a warning; where circumstances are severe, they shall be imposed with a fine of RMB 500 yuan per day, with a cap of RMB 10,000 yuan in total, or be detained for no less than five days but no more than 15 days.
